Paisana's Guide to Christmas in New York

There is nothing more magical than Christmas in New York City! A long lived tradition in my family, every December, we make a special trip to the city and relive our favorite memories and traditions, and partake in some our favorite, festive activities. While there are countless activities and sites to see in the City, I've narrowed it down to a few of my must see spots. So, without further ado, here is my guide to a sparkling, magical Christmas in New York!

Rockefeller Center

One of the most famous and iconic landmarks in all of New York, the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center is a sight not to be missed. The lighting will take place this Wednesday, December 9th with a show stopping lighting ceremony. After taking some photos by the massive, glittering tree, head over to the rink and skate the day away. Don't miss out on the nearby luxury shopping as well to pick up some gifts!

A Carriage Ride in Central Park

Take some time away from the hustle and bustle of New York and trade it for a horse and buggy ride in Central Park. A horse and buggy ride is one of the best ways to experience the Park. Although they have the carriage rides all year round, Christmas is the perfect time to take in the sights of the festive city around you.

Department Store Window Displays

From 5th Avenue to Madison, New York is famous for its luxury shopping scene. And at Christmas, these stores spare no expense in creating iconic window displays for all to see. Some of my favorites are Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Cartier, Bergdorf Goodman, and Lord and Taylor. These stores transform their displays into glittering winter wonderlands for all to enjoy. Check out this video below that I took of the spectacular light show outside of Saks Fifth Avenue!

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

Over in Brooklyn, the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights is a long standing tradition that started in the 1980's and lives on today. With the displays getting bigger and better each year, this is one tradition that should be added to your list! The lights extend from 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue, and 83rd Street to 86th Street. Check out this video of these elaborate, over the top Christmas decorations that you won't want to miss!

Bryant Park

Also bearing a large ice skating rink, Bryant Park is another must on my list. One of my favorite aspects is the shops at Bryant park that offer unique gifts, jewelry, ornaments, food, and much more. Tip: Make sure to stop by the Max Brenner shop for a cup of hot chocolate, it is simply the best!

The Radio City Rockettes

An iconic staple of New York City, the Rockettes are about as "New York" as you can get. This is the perfect show to bring the whole family to, as both children and adults will enjoy this festive and entertaining show that returns year after year. From their sparkling costumes to their iconic routines, this will get the whole family in the spirit of Christmas. Below is a video of one of their most famous routines, the falling "Toy Soldier" dance.

There are countless amazing sights and activities in New York, but these are my all time favorites at Christmastime. What are your favorite places to enjoy the Christmas spirit in New York City? Leave your answers in the comment box below!
